What is a nice pet to have that you would prefer to me (Small Animal)?
Alright heres the story. I had 3 Small Animal Pets. I had a hamster (Which bit me and was mean, but I think I was too young), a hedgehog (which was really mean), and two leopard geckos (which werent really mean, but they never wanted to play.
I am 14 turning 15 and I am looking for a very friendly pet, that would be loyal and nice and probably wouldnt bite, and would become attached to me. I do not really much want another reptile. My mom will not let me get a rat or a ferret. She does not want an animal that stinks too much, or makes a mess in the house. I want an animal that I can be friendly with and doesnt bite.
The choices would be-
Hamster (Not good first experience)
Gerbil (When I went to the pet store it didnt look like it wanted to play)
Dwarf Hamster (I think I would need more than 1)
Chinchilla (I dont know much about this animal)
Tell me any other rodent animals like these. I just want a animal thats attached with me.

Your mom, bless her heart, is probably afraid of rats and think they are dirty mean things. This is Not the case! I have had hamsters, gerbils, mice, a guinea pig, 2 outside rabbits and one house rabbit, and 3 wonderful ferrets.
I have had rats for several years, and the are by far the friendliest, best smelling, cutest, most affectionate and smartest small animal I have ever had. Rats are the Least likely rodent to bite. They would want to run away from some one who was hurting him, and would most likely only bite he it couldn't escape from whoever was hurting him.
Ferrets are wonderful too, but do have an aroma. They love to be played with. but are very expensive to buy and maintain.
Out of any animal companion, rats are the easiest to take care of and have room for. If only the little darlings lived longer! I recently had to have one of the 2 oldest sister rats put down. Her name was Mousy and she was so sweet. They all have their distinct personalities.
Please look at some websites for and about pet rats and have your mom look on also. Go to You Tube, and enter "pet rats" and you can see a great many videos of adorable ratties doing such things as; pea fishing, taking ice cubes from empty glasses, nest building, playing, sleeping and more.
Even the most dedicated rat-hater would have a hard time resisting all that charm, cuteness, and funny yawns of sleepy rats.
If you don't get a pair of same sex young rats, preferably from a breeder, you will be missing a great experience. They will both become very devoted to you, maybe even the first day or so.
I will tell a story about one of mine. Marnix had a skin problem. I took him to a vet who did a painful thing called skin-scraping. Looking for species specific burrowing mites. While the vet held him on the table, he was looking at me and crying in rat language. As soon as the vet relaxed his grip a bit my poor baby leaped to the safety of my shoulder, and buried his little head in my hair. I'm almost crying remembering his sweetness of it.
You couldn't ever find a better small animal than a pet rat.
So grab your Mom and start looking at some videos, and websites. I hope you end up with a pair of adorable little ratlets.
