How to ratlet-proof a cage with wide bars, if possible?
I just rescued three baby fuzzlet rats. They are tiny enough to fit through my rat mansion bars. Do any rat-wise people out there have a solution that's helped them with this problem in the past? Please don't tell me I should have thought about it before I bought the cage, since that doesn't apply in this case (I've had the cage for a few years and am currently housing my five girls in it). I just don't want the 3 new family members to escape. Thanks a lot, guys.
I used hardware cloth from Lowes to wrap my cage in from the outside. I used those spools of thin jewelry wire from Wal-Mart to attach it to all the doors and corners, ect. Ive heard you can get coated cloth, which I didnt know at the time, that will save you from cuts and scrapes well you are attaching it. If you cant find it though, dont worry, since its on the outside you wont hurt the rats in the cage. My cage now looks ghetto (i converted a ferret mansion, so the bar spacing was pretty big), but it works perfectly.
