what lizard bedding to use??
I have a green anole and a brown anole. I've heard that if you use sand or dirt for the ground covering that the lizard will consume some of the particles when hunting their insects. This is extremely bad for their digestive system. Plus, the little hairs in the dirt get stuck in their eyes. Just bark doesn't give any drainage so right now i am using dirt bedding from the petstore that comes in a compressed block covered with red bark about 1 inck in size. I thought this solution would be perfect untill one day after feeding time, I found one of my anoles lying dead on the ground with a cricket and a piece of bark wedged in his mouth. Obviously, i can't use the bark if my lizards are going to choke on it! What should i use on the bottom of my lizard cage?
I had anoles and what I used was something that sounds similiar. It came in a compressed brick and was advertised as "jungle bark" or something along those lines. It wasn't large chunks of bark, but when added to water it expanded out into a small coconut hair/ dirt mixture. I never had any troubles with the stuff. Before that I used top soil (as a rule of thumb avoid the ones enhanced with fertilizers)

I don't know what else you have in the cage, but I put potted african violets in my cage along with a bromeliad. The violets give them a place to hide along with an arborial surface to climb on and alternate hunting grounds to get them up off the substrate, and the bromeliad provides a constant source of water for them to drink.
edit: You get a green anole and a brown anole to get along together? Wow, I tried that combo and traded the borwn back to the petstore for a green. It kept chewing on my green anole and bit me several times. The little brown ones have attitude!
