Which rodent is cooler?

Gerbil, Hamster, Guinea Pig, Rat , Mouse, Degu , Chinchilla, Squirrel, Chipmunk, Bunny, or Sugar glider. I Know bunny and sugar glider is not in a Rodent, but im thinking of getting a rodent pet. Tell me cons and pros please.
Thanks guys!
im looking for something who does not need that much care when im at school.
Forgot to mention ferret.

If you are looking for something that doesn't require much care, scratch bunnies and guinea pigs off your list...unless you want unsocial pets that run from you. I have both and love them but they are not just "feed & go" type of pets.

Sugar Gliders are a lot of work as well, my sister had a pair for a decade or so, she said they are too much work, but she did love them. I had a bad experience with degu's... then they disappeared, was never sure if they escaped or the cats got them but I really didn't care, they were not social and bit. I have never had a chinchilla but imagine they would require a bit of work. Ferrets can be kept caged, but really they need as much attention as a cat does - and they smell worse (but they are super cute and I loved the one I had - he just moved in one day, we never knew where he came from...)

Personally, out of your list, I would choose a rat. I have had many rats and always loved them. My last pair of rats weren't what I would have chosen, they were given to me as a birthday present. Byron and Riff Raff were wonderful though. I could take them to friends apartments and they would explore but always came back to me. They are the only caged critter I ever had that would go back to their cage if they left.

My husband fed his junk food, I fed mine healthy. When we moved in together I wouldn't give his junk food anymore. One escaped from his cage, went and got a bag of atomic fireballs and a box of Nips and took them back to his cage where he proceeded to unwrap and eat them all! Rats have great personality!

Animals like chipmunks and squirrels may require special exotic pet permits - check your local animal control to find out.

Also, have you considered a hedgehog? My hedgies are social and like attention, but they do not require a lot of work. Also, tortoises are great personable pets that don't require a lot of work.

Each of these animals has it's own care requirements. Start looking at websites and learning what is required to properly care for each of the pets that you are interested in - and see if there is one that clicks with you and what you have in mind.

As you narrow it down, find reputable local breeders of the ones you are most interested in and see if they are willing to talk to you about them and their needs. (If they are not willing to offer guidance, they are not good breeders! Take your business elsewhere!) A good breeder will be willing to talk to you, show you animals (though not all will let people into nurseries or breeding rooms), and they will be willing to have you call them for the duration of the animals life.

Feel free to contact me to discuss pets and pet care anytime. If I don't know the answer I probably know someone who does... or at least a good website!

In the end, it comes down to personal prefernce.
