Which type of rodent should I get?

Please could you answer with Degu, Guinea Pigs, Rats, Mice, Gerbils, Chinchillas, Chipmunks, Hamsters.

Are they easy-ish to look after?
Can they climb?
What dimensions do they need to be for a pair?
What do they eat?
How often do they need cleaning?
Do they bite?
Can I make the cage?
How long do they live for?
Can they live in pairs?

Thank you so much!!

Degus

Fairly easy to look after, so long as you understand their dietary requirements
Cant climb very well I dont think
Very active so I'd say 3X2X3 minimum, small bar spacing and ALL METAL, degus destroy plastic base cages
A frugal diet of degu pellets and hay...I believe you can substitute chinchilla pellets if you cant get degus. They cant have many treats because they are so prone to diabetes.
Weekly
All animals can bite, degus can be prone to biting
Yes so long as you can make it all metal with no wood...they will destroy wood too
8-ish years I believe
Yes, they are social so must live in pairs

GPs
They are easy to look after but need to be kept clean or they get smelly
They cant climb
4X2 or 3X3 minimum. Bigger is better
Hay and lots of fresh veg is healthiest...go easy on pelleted food it can cause illness in them. Most veg is fine, avoid iceberg and cos lettuce, onions, garlic, dont feed too much fruit and avoid citrus fruit
Pick up poo and urine spots daily, full clean weekly, they get smelly
All animals can bite, guinea pigs generally wont bite
Yes, google "C&C guinea pig cages" for a cheap and brilliant way to make GP cages
4-6 years I believe
Yes, they are social and need company.

Rats
Easy to look after BUT require a lot of human attention and time out to exercise
Yes they can climb
80cmX50cmX80cm is a good size for 2
High quality rat pellets. You can also make home mixes for them like Shumanite or Subee's which are healthier...google for info on this. Rats can have most things as treats but avoid peanut butter, sweets and candy, spicy or salty or sugary foods, raw green beans, onions, garlic, too much citrus. My rats love cooked chicken, raw pasta, strawberry, raisins and peanuts. Rats eat most things though.
I would say maybe every 5 days.
Most well-socialised rats arent prone to biting, but rats can bite and can give a very nasty, deep wound if they want to.
I wouldnt recommend making their cage...you need coated bars, galvanised will rust.
A rat that sees its third birthday is lucky. They can live til 5, but 2 is old for a rat.
Yes rats MUST have the company of another rat.

Mice
Easy to look after
Good climbers
2ftX1ftX2ft
Mouse food and any treat you could give to a rat
Mice really smell, I had to clean mine every 4 days or so when I kept them.
They are not prone to biting but are hard to handle
No, it is best to keep them in custom designed cages or aquariums because bar spacing is usually big enough for them to fit through.
18 months-2 years, sometimes longer
Yes mice are social, they should be kept in pairs.

Gerbils
Easy to look after
Yes but they prefer to dig
2ftX1ftX2ft
A hamster mix will do them fine
They dont need cleaning often as they seldom pee, which means their cage stays clean and dry for longer. I had 4 gerbs in a 4 foot long aquarium and I changed them every 2 weeks
They are not prone to biting but are hard to handle
Not really, the best gerbil cage is a big fish tank filled with woodshavings and cardboard tube tunnels
2 years-ish
yes they are social and should have company

Chinchillas
No, they require a lot of care and time out of the cage...they also destroy your house and have a specific diet
A little, they usually jump
3X2X3 foot
Chinchilla pellets and hay. Not too many treats they are prone to illness.
Weekly cleaning is fine
yes they bite sometimes and usually dont enjoy being handled so will wriggle and shed their coat
You can but it should be all metal with wooden platforms, no plastic
15 years
Yes, chins are social but can be hard to introduce...get 2 from the same litter or introduce them young

Chipmunks
No they are not easy to look after...the cage needs to be massive, they cant be handled usually, and there's lots of other issues with them
Um...duh, they are squirrels of course they can climb
4 foot wide, 2 foot deep and 5 foot tall for ONE chipmunk
You can buy special chipmunk food, some people feed them hamster food mixed with other stuff. They love nuts and fresh fruit
At least weekly I would have thought
Yes they bite, and thats even if you can get hold of them which you usually cant
You can
Around 8 years I think
No, they are solitary it is best to keep them alone or in opposite-sex pairs

Hamsters (I am assuming you mean syrian)
Easy to look after
Can climb
2X1X2 foot for ONE hamster
Hamster mix
Weekly, change the nest every few days if they poo and store food there
Some bite
Possibly you could make the cage
around 2 years
No, they are solitary.

Please bear in mind I'm not an expert on a lot of these animals i am just going on what I have heard and read.
