i think i am going with the first one but please go ahead and put your opinion in oh i do not care if it is not attractive it is more space for my gerbils to play

Neither are good. The air circulation is bad will be bad if you put a hamster in it. Try to get a cage with bars spaced about a 1/2 inch because they will try to escape.
