Why Does My Computer Restart Whilst On Internet?

Basically, about 50% of the time, when I'm on the internet (usually using Google Chrome) my computer restarts. It is a fairly old computer with quite a lot of programs installed. I have just deleted loads of stuff. It is running Windows XP service pack 3. Would an operating system upgrade help??

It could be programs conflicting with each other, not enough memory (RAM), or maybe even a hardware problem, such as overheating or a weak power supply.
