I want a new species of pet. Suggestions?
My cat recently died of health issues she has had since birth and my parents told me i could get a new cat. But, she was irreplaceable so i don't want another cat. Plus, i have cats and dogs already. I want a new animal. Not a bunny, i adopted two six year old rabbits and had them for YEARS before they died. I am about to turn sixteen and i take very good care of my animal companions. So any level of difficulty is ok, except when it needs over two hours of attention a day, because then it is taking away from the other animals in my care. I want something like an Iguana or Sugar Glider or something. Something new. I love animals. Working with them, learning about them. Any suggestions to what might be good for me? Not fish or birds. Birds are too verbal for my taste and I can't pet a fish.
First of all, I'm sorry to hear about your kitty. 
I had a pet pass away in December, so I understand completely what you're going through.
Normally I wouldn't recommend my beloved ferrets to anyone, but you seem responsible enough. They are excellent pets. On one hand, they are fairly easily trainable: they can learn to do tricks, can be clicker trained, leash trained, and house (out-of-cage) trained. The only thing about them is they are VERY curious. They will get into anything big enough to fit their nosy little heads in (think vacuums, dishwashers, recliners--dark places or places that look like tunnels). They do require about 4 hours of out-of-cage time (and the cage must be large enough for them to comfortably move around and live in---Ferret Nation makes good cages). However, they don't require constant attention as long as there are safe toys and nothing for them to get into (google ferret proofing your home). They are very quirky little critters; some are very affectionate, some extremely playful; some like to sleep all day; some like to dig and tunnel (but don't cause much/any damage usually), etc.
If you have anymore questions about ferrets, don't hesitate to ask. I'll jump at the chance to prove to you why they're one of the best species of animal you could possibly own.
EDIT: Ferrets don't smell at all (less than my cat, actually) if you feed them a proper diet. NO fish oil in their foods (makes the poo stink), scoop their litter box(es) as necessary, clean the cage as necessary, and wash their beds. No better or worse than any other mammal. An intact ferret that still has their anal scent glands may or will smell, but these do not come in pet shops and most breeders and rescues will descent and spay/neuter.
