Is it ok to keep Gerbils in a bin cage for a few days?
Well ive decided I want to adopt a/some little pets from the thing at PetsAtHome, but I dont know what im getting, I was thinking that I could; Get whatever ones they have there (So if they have Gerbils get that, Dwarf hamsters, ect;)
and then take them home and keep them in the bin cage I have. If i get any hamsters I will keep them in there permanantly (it IS fairly big) and if I get gerbils I would keep them in there for like 2-3 days, and then get a big gerbilarium. (a big tank with a tank topper basically..)
But would the gerbils chew out of it within that time? I know people say they chew ALOT, and I can understand that, because they are rodents, but would they chew out of it? Its plastic by the way if you dont know what a bin cage is, it is a plastic storage bin converted into a cage.
I would have a well ventilated lid on it, and there would be air holes.
I will give them ALOT of things to chew.
Gerbils do chew a lot, however if they have plenty of other things to chew they may be ok on a short term basis. Make sure they have a water bottle as well though, you'd have to find a way to mount one.
However if possible get the gerbilarium and tank topper before you get the gerbils. That would save the hassle and make it easier for the gerbils to settle in.
