Has my hamster got a tumor?
My hamster, Turtle, is overweight. He was like this when we got him from the petshop, and he has not lost much atall. Apart from that he was healthy and happy (if a little lazy) until I looked in his cage yesterday, on friday. He had a pink growth sort of thing hanging out of the side of his mouth, and he looked in alot of pain. He kept touching it and trying to get it off- I looked it up on the internet and I think it is either some sort of growth, a tumor, or a impacted cheek pouch. Its the same size and color as a newborn hamster pup, and when I first saw him it kind of looked like he was giving brith from his mouth, or eating something like a wine gum. I know he hates it, and we tried all the vets this morning- but they were all shut until monday. It is saturday today, and I am scared he might not make it till monday. Does anyone have any advice on what it could be, and what I could do?
my hamster had a similar tumor on its cheek I had thought it was paper in her cheek for days it went from nothing to quarter sized in a week, I took her to the vet to confirm what it was and I had to put her down.
Dont try to guess at what it is, take him to the vet so they can check and if it really is hurting him it would be best to just pay the small fee to put him down instead of letting it get to the point it impairs breathing, eatting or moving. Best case scenario would be if he got something stuck in his mouth then maybe the vet can help get it out.
