How do I keep bedding out of my gerbils food?

So, I own 2 gerbils and they share the same cage (duhh) and everytime I put food into their bowl, I come back about 30 minutes later and its filled with bedding. I dont want to waste the food by emptying it out every hour. Any ideas to help keep bedding out of the bowl?

its Natural for gerbils to cover their food with bedding its in their instinct because in the wild they have to protect and hide their food from predators i say if they are still eating leave them be!
