Hamster ,Guinea pig or Degu?
Who to get, Hamster , Guinea pig or Degu?! i have 2 cats too but i would keep the little pet safe, dont worry! but who hamster ,Guinea pig or Degu?!
They are all very different creatures,
-----------------------------------------
Hamsters are one of the most well known kept pets, they are relitively easy to care for, small, and will cuddle up to you. Syrian hamsters need to be kept by themselves as they are very solitary and will fight to death if you put another one in, however dwarf do quite well together and can be kept together,Hamsters live on average 2 years but it really depends on each hamster.Hamsters diet consists of hamster food which you can get in museli form (availible from most pet stores) Water, and as a treat you can feed yogurt drops( also availble from most pet stores) and apples, cucumber, etc, however these are treats and should only be fed twice a week. Wherever you get your hamster ask what they feed it on so that you can stick to the food ,to avoid an upset stomach, you can also put a mineral block/salt lick to give your hamster minerals needed and it will also keep the teeth down. I recommend a good barred cage, not a plastic one with tubes, these do not allow good air circulatiuon, and are very easy to break, and very hard to clean. The bigger the cage the better. Hamsters are part of the Rodent family which means their teeth constantly grow, this means it is needed to put chew toys in to keep their teeth down, wether to get a female or male is up to you, males tend to be less smelly whereas females do tend to be more smelly
I clean out the cage with a pet safe disnefectant weekly
Hamsters are nocturnal
Hamsters enjoy human interaction and should be played with daily

Guinea pigs make great pets, for children and adults, they like to be kept in pairs or more and because they aren't nocturnal they do like someone to play with while your away. Guinea pigs need as big as a cage you can get, they need lots of space to run around in and sleep eat etc.For diet guinea pigs under 6 months need alfalfa hay but when they are over 6 months they need timothy. They need hay to be availive 24/7 as it will help their stomach digest and clense etc. What i do is feed my piggies a cup of pellets each (i have 2 so 2 cupfulls each, again ask wherever you buy them what food they are on so that you don't upset their stomach,) and in the evening i feed them their fresh fruit and vegetables, unlike hamsters they need fresh fruit and vegetables daily, as guinea pigs can't produce their own vitamin c
in the evening i feed one guinea pig,
2 leaves of cos/Romaine lettuce each, daily
one baby carrot for each guinea pig daily
A couple of stems of cliantro for each guinea pig daily
a couple of stems of parsely for each guinea pig once every 2 days
2 strawberries for each guinea pig daily
Bell peppers one quatre for each guinea pig daily (apart from reds which is once a week as they contain a high amount of sugar)
2 cherry tomaotes each daily
All should be washed well.
As for water i don't recommend you to put vitamin c stuff in, it makes the water taste bad and discourages them from drinking water.
Guinea pigs do smell if kept indoors so they cage i clean out daily as it gets smelly i clean it out with a pet safe disnefectant
again Guinea pigs are part of the rodent family and need to have chew toys to keep their teeth down.Guinea pigs need their nails clipped monthy make sure you don't cut the quick which can be seen with a lightly coloured nail (a red vein) but if it is dark just cut a little if you cut the quick it will bleed.Guinea pigs enjoy interaction and should be played with daily.Guinea pigs live for about 5 years

Degus
Degus MUST live in pairs. They must have a metal cage as they enjoy to chew they must be fed on what the previous people fed.Not all enjoy human interaction some do.Again they are part of the rodent family so their teeth constantly grows so they need chew toys. Degus are natural jumpers and should have a cage with lots of levels. They live for about 7 years. They also like timothy hay and it should be availible.Fresh fruits are to bed in small amounts and as a treat only. Clean the degus cage weekly. but generally degus are very clean creatures. They also need dust baths using chinchilla sand. Remove them after about 20- 30 minutes.

All in all i would recommend a pair or more of degus.
Good luck and i hope i helped
