Is the "Furminator" brush worth the money?

I have a kitten (6 months) who sheds a lot. She is white with a couple of black patches, so whenever I pet/hold her, I'm covered in fur. I brush her every day with a wire brush and it helps a little. We got a Bamboo brand "de-shedding" tool and it's a piece of crap. I think it really just "shaves" some of the fur down, but it doesn't really remove the undercoat.

The Furminator brand deshedding thing is $38 at petsmart, so I want to make sure it works before I waste money on it. Thanks.

PS-- My kitten is medium hair. She's very healthy and active. Indoors only. Spayed at 4 months.

My girlfriend and I got one of them a little while ago. They really do get down to the undercoat, and after brushing for about 5 minutes, we usually end up with a ball of fur about half the size of the cat. We've also used it to pull out knots.

They're definitely better than a normal brush, but our kitties have a lot of fur, so we're thinking of getting them a lion cut next spring. The brush is expensive, but I think we've gotten our money's worth out of it.
