Papaya Enzyme Tablets for rabbits?
I just saw in one of my bunny groups that a few people were talking about what to do when a bunny eats something they are not supposed to. One lady said since her rabbits were 1 and 2, she has given them 1 Papaya Enzyme Chewable Tablet (for humans) per day, to keep their digestive tract good. She said they also make these for pets but she doesn't know the price difference.
Is this safe to use on rabbits, since it's made for humans? The dose for humans is 4 tablets, I think I read. And that lady just gives one each.
I just found a site that has the tablets for rabbits. So I wouldn't get the human ones, if I get it.
Papaya and pineapple both contain enzymes that break down various things and are often used to break down trichobezoars (a fancy word for 'hairballs'). The papaya tablets are safe to use. I don't know what dose you would give, but I highly recommend this site:

Hairballs are the main reason I know of to use papaya. I've also seen recommendations to use Petromalt or a similar product that is used for cats for hairballs. That helps keep things moving through the digestive tract. I don't know if papaya should be used every day. Make sure your bunny has access to fresh hay, the fiber will help keep the digestive system in good health naturally.
