Budgie advice please?
At the moment i have a white plastic cage for my new budgie which seems small to me. I think i need to go out and buy a new one. I need to know which cage to buy chrome or plastic?
also what size cage should i buy my budgie.

Most cages which are marketed and sold as parakeet or budgie cages are far too small by my standards. Those little things where the trays are 14" X 10", and no more than 14" tall should be used for nothing other than travel or hospital cages when you have a sick bird.
Also, some people like the appearance of a decorative roof on the cage or even a round cage. I find that the plain square cages seem to keep my birds happiest because you can also hang lots of toys or food from the top near the perch which is closest to the top of the cage.
I would suggest an appropriate sized cage for a single budgie have a tray that is no less than 18" X 18" and it should be no shorter than 18" tall. Someone suggested the use of a "cockatiel" size cage which is probably more in line with the above dimensions BUT, you also need to be sure that the spacing between the bars is not so large that a budgie might be able to push his head through the bars, begin struggling to get out and not be able to get his head back inside. Some of the cockatiel cages will have wider bar spacing than the "budgie" cages so be sure to watch for that. I think that bar spacing from 1/2" to maybe 3/4" would be safe. AND, be sure that the cage has at least two sides with horizontal bars since budgies like to do a lot of climbing too.
Its too bad that more owners don't take the time to consider the size of their bird's cage. Even if a bird is allowed plenty of outside the cage playtime, people should stop for a moment and consider how they would feel if they had to spend the majority of their time locked in their bathroom or small bedroom - that might change some minds about what size cage is acceptable.
