How do I convince my dad that it is not cruel to keep a chinchilla in a cage?

We've been looking at getting a chinchilla and I'm in the process of persuading my parents to let me get one. Now all of a sudden my dad is saying to me that he doesn't like cages and he thinks it's not right to keep something as big as a chinchilla in a cage. We were thinking of getting this father-son pair and he keeps saying that the son will grow just as big as the dad and it's not right to keep them in a cage because it's not natural, but this cage (it comes with them) is really big. I'm so upset - he made me think I could have one (or two), I was so happy, and now he says this. Help me convince him it's ok! please =(
It's not as easy as you all think ='( my dad is going to say he doesn't want to see this cage at all. why on earth does he feel so strongly?!?!?! I've persuaded my mum and she's always the one that says no, my dad is never strict D'=
Take him to a chinchilla adoption centre, or a chinchilla pet farm, or even a pet shop, and he can see for himself that chinchillas are kept in cages by most people, and that it's the way it's always been done. They know nothing better of where else they could live. Make the point that the cage is really big, and propose putting all kinds of toys and things in the cage, such as shelves, ropes, boxes and other things, because a chinchilla would rather have a lot of things to play with and keep themselves busy in a small cage than nothing to do in a really big one. And make sure he reads this answer for himself. Where else is he gunna keep it anyway?
