Bunny Rabbits out of control?
A colleague of mine who lives in the Somerset country side has a problems during this time of year with Rabbits burrowing his land.
He would like to know how he might be able to persuade the rabbits away. I suggested a bird of prey, higher in the food chain. Apparently a couple of hawks live in the area.
He is considering shooting them, but I would like to hear some different opions on how he may be able to reduce the rabbit population in his area.
Traps would be a good idea, but what does he do with them once he's caught them, He can't drive them to the next village and I don't think he wishes to take it's life at close range.
thanks for any suggestions
My parents have the same problem on their small farm. They have found that the best solution is to have someone with a hunters license come and hunt the rabbits. My parents don't feel so bad having the rabbits killed because at least they were being used for meat and not being thrown away. They found a hunter through word of mouth. Before using a hunter, my dad would trap and dump them in a field a few miles away. But, then he found out that dumping any type of animal in their county is illegal and he could be charged a hefty fine if caught.
