Im getting 2 rats TODAY! any suggestions on care for them?
Well, todays the day! I've been asking for MONTHS for rats for christmas and my dad kept saying "ya right" so i didn't think I was going to get one. On Christmas day, I opened a rat starter kit, started to scream, and then calmed down. Today I'm getting 2 female rats. Their cage is already set up with a bean bag bed (the kind thats filled with SAFE stuff for rats) and a hammock. Even a tube.
I just want to make sure that my rats are healthy and happy. Are there any suggestions of caring for them?
Congratulations! I'm also trying to get a rat for an upcoming birthday and I've done extensive research on it. Rat's are very social so it's great your getting two but rats still need to get attention from their owners at least 30 minutes a day. They are generally clean animals but to insure no diseases or bacteria settle in their cages and get them sick l'd suggest cleaning it once a week or at least once every two weeks. Also, I know you've already got the cage but try and make sure the next one you get is wire if this one is not. Wire provides perfect ventilation for rats while they get to experience the outside world while still in there cages. Rats LOVE to play in mazes, dollhouses, or really anywhere they can explore. They also like just being with you while you do anything- Like reading, watching TV, playing on the computer- and they'd just be sitting on your shoulder. They are great animals and I'm glad you've gotten the opportunity to experience them!
