Why does my guinea pig lay in it's litter corner for a few minutes at a time?
I've noticed since adding a litter box corner to my guinea pig's cage he has a tendency to lay down in it for a few minutes sometimes. He did it without bedding in it and does it with bedding too. Rest of the cage is Fleece. Is this normal? When he lays in it he isn't going potty because the bedding is wet nor soiled where his bottom was. He doesn't lay down in any other part of his cage except his hidey house or in my arms.
There could be a few things going on....
1. For starters your guinea pig could be trying to go potty and having trouble going
2. He could be hot and finds it cooler in the litter box
3. Lastly he could just like being in there and finds it comfortable and safe.
If you look around the cage and you do not see any poop or pee than you know that he might have the 1st problem I listed. If that is the case than you might for a while try giving him fresh greens because they are a laxative to guinea pigs so that might help him but if you still do not see any improvement than you might want to see a doctor.
If it is the 2nd thing I listed than you might want to add a few more cool objects for him to lay in (plastic tends to be colder) and if you see him going to those others more than you are good to go.
Lastly of it is the 3rd thing I listed than everything is ok and you have nothing to worry about.
I hope I helped and good luck!
